(TRUNEWS) Refugees in some parts of Germany must now pay for their stay.
The crackdown has begun after public outrage and protests over the influx of refugees. Over 1 million people, mostly young Muslim men entered Germany in the past year from the Middle East and Africa.
The refugees in Bavaria are now only allowed to keep cash and valuables worth no more than 750 euros, which is about $810 in U.S. dollars, according to the Daily Mail. In Baden-Wuerttemberg authorities seize money and family jewelry.
The measures are similar to those enacted during World War II.
“Asylum seekers must repay the costs of accommodation and care to the state,” said Green Party MP Volker Beck.
The states have justified the move claiming federal law requires asylum seekers to use their own resources before applying for government aid.
Switzerland and Denmark have similar rules, as reported last week by TRUNEWS http://ift.tt/1Vdzhe4
