A new document released by Edward Snowden shows that US intelligence spied on German intelligence under a program called “Fairview.”
The documents do not say how the NSA obtained the communications of the BKA and BND (German federal police) but was revealed as part of an NSA presentation about their online dragnets. The communications concerned a kidnapping in Yemen and movement of the hostages.
The surprising part of the Snowden leak is that German intelligence had been openly working with the NSA on various projects.
A spokesman for the German Interior Ministry denied to the newspaper SPIEGEL that they had no evidence of the NSA intercepting secure communications although in some cases an emergency requires an unsecured call or message.
