DHS guts Border Patrol: Bullies Agency with Political Correctness - from TRUNEWS

(TRUNEWS) Proposed Department of Homeland Security (DHS) budget cuts 300 border patrol agents for fiscal year 2017.

In the proposal, the DHS plans to field more than 21.000 agents, with each agent costing roughly $181,000 a year.

This proposed cut would especially hinder one of the busier corridors for illegal cross-border activity, the Rio Grande Valley Sector. In Texas

An agent from that region, Chris Cabrera, who also serves as the Vice President of chapter 3307of the National Border Patrol Council, a union for border agents, told KRGV Wednesday that agents had been catching illegal immigrants, overseeing turn-ins, and regulating drug and weapon trafficking at elevated levels since September, and this move could undermine their mission.

“One, we have people turning themselves in at unprecedented rates. Then we have the people that are always coming in illegally, then we have the drug flow that’s coming north and the money that’s going south and guns that are going south. And to cut jobs at a time like this is a recipe for disaster.”

CONGRESSIONAL TESTIMONY

Breitbart reported that Agent Cabrera testified in March 2015 to the senate committee ‘Securing the Southwest Border: Perspectives from Beyond the Beltway’, where he noted that the Obama administration was misleading the American people by manipulating border security data, pointedly saying “I want to be crystal clear – the border is not secure.”

During the hearing Cabrera highlighted that his fellow agents were being punished for reporting illegal alien groups of more than 20.

“Agents who repeatedly report groups larger than 20 face retribution. Management will either take them out of the field and assign them to processing detainees at the station or assign them to a fixed position in low volume areas as punishment,” Cabrera said.

Cabrera also told lawmakers that 6 out of every 10 illegals who attempt to cross the southwest border into the United States are not apprehended.

“Ask any line Agent in the field and he or she will tell you that at best we apprehend 35-40% of the illegal immigrants attempting to cross. This number is even lower for drug smugglers who are much more adept at eluding capture,” Cabrera said.

CHIEFS POLITICAL CORRECTNESS

This cut to the Border Patrol comes on the heels of shocking testimony Tuesday from Customs and Border Protection Commissioner R. Gil Kerlikowske to the House Committee on Appropriations, where he said agents who object to President Obama’s illegal amnesty directive should “look for another job.”

“Well, if you really don’t want to follow the directions of your superiors, including the president of the United States and the commissioner of Customs and Border Protection, then you really do need to look for another job,” Kerlikowske said.

Shawn Moran, vice president of the NBPC, took “great offense” to Kerlikowske’s remarks, and refuted his assertion by saying “when it comes to catch and release, Border Patrol agents are the only ones following the law. The commissioner can dress it up any way he likes, but even though we are documenting people, they are being released into American society, never to be seen again.”

Moran added that the NBPC is directly in touch with line agents in the field, and said Mr. Kerlikowske gets his information filtered by layers of “yes men” at headquarters. Moran said agents do follow orders, even when they disagree with them, but have the right to speak out against them as well, and said the series of policies is taking a toll on the agency.

BORDER SHOWDOWN

House Speaker Paul D. Ryan has said Obama’s executive amnesty “is a direct attack on the Congress’s Article I powers under the Constitution,” and noted that “the president is not permitted to write law. Only Congress is. The House will make that very clear.”

Brandon Judd, the chief of the NBPC, said in testimony to Congress in Jan. 2016, that Border Patrol agents had been told to reinstate the illegal catch-and-release policy of a decade ago.
