The American people didn’t know about Hillary Clinton’s private email server, but Russian hackers not only knew of its existence, they tried to break into it five times.
In a new release from the State Department, officials confirm that five times Russian hackers sent e-mails with malware disguised as speeding tickets from New York. New York State Police had been alerting officials to the scam in July 2011.
“We have no evidence to suggest she replied to this email or that she opened the attachment,” Nick Merrill, a spokesman for Clinton’s Democratic presidential campaign told the Associated Press. “As we have said before, there is no evidence that the system was ever breached. All these emails show is that, like millions of other Americans, she received spam.”
A congressional source told Fox News that FBI Director James Comey briefed lawmakers about an investigation into Clinton’s private server. He said they were focused on finding any breaches by a foreign entity.
