Helium is LEAKING from massive earthquake fault in LA raising fears ‘big one’ could be more devastating than thought - from TRUNEWS

A huge fault in the Earth’s crust near Los Angeles is leaking helium, researchers have found.

They say the unexpected find sheds new light on the Newport-Inglewood Fault Zone in the Los Angeles Basin.

It reveals the fault is far deeper than previously thought, and a quake would be far more devastating.

It follows a report from the U.S. Geological Survey has warned the risk of ‘the big one’ hitting California has increased dramatically.

Greeks struggling to get by as cash dries up ahead of referendum on EU - from TRUNEWS

“Our business survived the Turks and Hitler. We can survive this,” Kostas Mitropolous said Monday outside the hardware shop his family has run since 1889.

He was referring to the financial catastrophe that looms over Greece because at midnight Tuesday it will fail to pay international creditors some of the hundreds of billions of euros they are owed.

This will send the country into an economic purgatory that will have dire consequences for its people and will whipsaw the European economy — already, just the news of the likely default has roiled stock markets around the world.

Like most Greeks, Mitropolous said the referendum called for this Sunday was not really about whether to accept or reject the demands of the European Union and the International Monetary Fund for more cuts. It was only about whether Greece should try to stay in the eurozone or revert to the drachma — the Grexit.

Global markets spooked by looming ‘leap second’ - from TRUNEWS

You won’t even notice it — it will literally pass by in a second. But markets around the world are frantically trying to avoid a leap second that threatens to disrupt global trading on Tuesday.

The extra second will take place at 8 p.m. ET on June 30 so that we can sync up our watches with the Earth’s slowing rotation. But the 61-second minute threatens to make computer systems go haywire, potentially screwing up complex trades that can take place in a split second.

The leap second just happens to coincide with the opening for many Asian markets. To circumvent the potential for disaster, several exchanges are ending trading early or opening late on Tuesday.

Here’s how to see tomorrow night’s - from TRUNEWS

A glorious conjunction between the two brightest planets in our night sky occurs Tuesday evening, June 30th.

Right after the sun sets at 8:26pm, head outside and look west. Just above the horizon, you’ll see a bright object in the night sky as Jupiter and Venus come within 1/3 of a degree of each other.

Some are calling this “The Star of Bethlehem” conjunction because Jupiter and Venus did something similar near the star Regulus in 3/2BC. Many astronomers have speculated that this ancient celestial event is the one recorded in the Bible’s Gospel of Matthew.

July 4 terrorist attack on U.S. soil a legitimate threat, officials warn - from TRUNEWS

U.S. intelligence officials and lawmakers are worried that chatter about a terrorist attack on U.S. soil this Fourth of July may be more than just talk.

The FBI has arrested at least 10 U.S. citizens in three weeks who were plotting various attacks on the homeland on behalf of the Islamic State group, and the Department of Homeland Security issued a joint bulletin with the FBI last week putting local law enforcement agencies across the country on heightened alert.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if we’re sitting here a week from today talking about an attack over the weekend in the United States,” former CIA Deputy Director Michael J. Morell said Monday on “CBS This Morning.” “That’s how serious this is.”

Israeli Defense Minister Says Israel is Helping Selected Rebel Groups in Syria - from TRUNEWS

Although Israel has repeatedly declared its determination not to get sucked into the civil war raging across the border with Syria, Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon admitted Monday that the country was in fact doing more than just cheering on the good guys.

In a briefing to Israeli diplomatic reporters, Yaalon acknowledged that Israel was helping out selected rebel groups operating in Syria near the border of the Golan Heights. “We’ve assisted them on two conditions—that they don’t get too close to the border and don’t let Islamic extremists get too close and that they don’t touch the Druze.”

Some 130,000 Israelis are members of the Druze sect, an offshoot of Islam. Since the Syrian civil war began four years ago, Israel’s Druze have been concerned about the fate of their 600,000 brethren living in Syria, particularly those living in a village two miles away, Khader, easily visible from the border. Last week, mortar rounds could be seen exploding about a mile from the village where a battle was being fought between the Syrian army and the Free Syrian Army rebels.

Putin calls on Middle East nations to unite behind Assad in fight against ‘evil’ in Syria - from TRUNEWS

In a surprise meeting with Syria’s foreign minister, Russian President Vladimir Putin pledged his support Monday for Syrian President Bashar Assad and called on all Middle East nations to join forces to fight Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant militants.

The war in Syria, which began with protests in March 2011, has killed more than 220,000 people. Russia, which has traditionally strong ties to Syria, has been seen as a key to a peaceful solution and has previously rebuffed suggestions that Assad’s resignation could help end the war.

Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem held talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Monday then was whisked to the Kremlin to meet with Putin.

Greece debt crisis adds to a string of similar global financial meltdowns - from TRUNEWS

Well before Greece took centre stage, there were other financial crises that grabbed the global spotlight. And the plot lines were disturbingly similar.

For many Greeks, the real possibility of the country defaulting on its debt payments, or at least going into arrears — and, subsequently, exiting the European Union — may be unthinkable.

But that hasn’t prevented the governing party from balking at a US$8.1-billion reform-dependent bailout and pushing ahead with a July 5 referendum that could end up being just that: unthinkable.

For instance, there have been concerns that a break-away by Greece could, in a worst-case scenario, also fan fears of a contagion of defaults and EU exits. Still, that’s unlikely to happen any time soon.

“The other peripheral economies are generally in much stronger shape than even two years ago,” said Douglas Porter, chief economist at BMO Capital Markets.

Greece prepares for economic darkness - from TRUNEWS

Unless money falls from the sky or a last-minute agreement is struck between Greece and its creditors, the country will most certainly miss its €1.6-billion payment ($2.2 billion Cdn.) to the International Monetary Fund on Tuesday.

Skipping a debt repayment of this size to one of Greece’s three creditors — the IMF, European Commission and European Central Bank — pushes the country closer to abandoning the euro and returning to the drachma.

Greece has entered a period of financial and political chaos.

Banks have shut for the next six days to prevent a further loss of cash from accounts. Greeks have access to ATMs but are restricted to withdrawing only €60 ($84) a day. Athens grocery stores and gas stations are also experiencing long lines as stoic Greeks prepare for the worse.

Puerto Rico governor calls for bankruptcy; adviser says island ‘insolvent’ - from TRUNEWS

Puerto Rico’s governor on Monday called for the commonwealth to be allowed to restructure its debts under U.S. bankruptcy code, while a newly appointed adviser to the U.S. territory said it is “insolvent” and will soon run out of cash.

Governor Alejandro Garcia Padilla, in a televised address, said sacrifice must be shared by bondholders, as he called for Washington to allow a bankruptcy debt restructuring.

The Caribbean island is struggling to relieve a $73 billion debt burden. It came to a crunch point on Monday – ironically at the same time as did debt-laden Greece – after a dire report on its stability by former International Monetary Fund economists was released ahead of key deadlines on Wednesday to repay debt.

Steven Rhodes, the retired U.S. bankruptcy judge who oversaw Detroit’s historic bankruptcy and has now been retained by Puerto Rico to help solve its problems, gave a blunt assessment on Monday.

How to stop an asteroid hitting Earth: Would people cooperate to face a global peril? - from TRUNEWS

Earlier this year, while war and chaos continued to unfold further east, scientists gathered on the outskirts of Rome to discuss another sort of catastrophe. Astronomers and physicists from some of the world’s top institutions grappled with a dire scenario: an asteroid up to 1,300ft in diameter – big enough to cause epochal damage – was hurtling towards Earth, and the countries likely to be hit included some of the poorest and most unstable in the world. Policymakers bickered over whether to try to blow it up or move it, and nations nearly went to war over whether deflecting it would make the fiery rock more likely to land on them…

Relax. It was only a drill. Had it been a real emergency, you would have been instructed to kiss the world – or a large chunk of it – goodbye.

Watching this five-day asteroid war game from the wings were two Americans, one from the scientific world and one from the military. These elder statesmen of what’s called planetary defence have been responsible for reminding policymakers that the planet and all life on it have been shaped by big rocks from outer space slamming into it. Dave Morrison was one of the first researchers to suggest that, unlike the dinosaurs made extinct by an asteroid impact, we might be able to defend ourselves.

California lawmakers pass country’s strictest vaccine bill - from TRUNEWS

California lawmakers on Monday sent the governor a contentious bill that would impose one of the strictest school vaccination laws in the country in reaction to a recent measles outbreak at Disneyland.

The Senate reaffirmed the bill striking California’s personal belief exemption for immunizations on a 24-14 vote. Mississippi and West Virginia are the only two states with such strict requirements in place.

Democratic Gov. Jerry Brown has not said if he would sign it.

Parents opposed to the bill vowed to take legal action even though the issue has been upheld in court, including by the Supreme Court.

“I will sue to put my child in school,” said Jude Tovatt of Roseville and the parent of an 8-year-old child. “I will not run from the state that is our home.”

Pentagon urged to boot chaplains who oppose ‘gay’ marriage - from TRUNEWS

In the aftermath of the Supreme Court’s decision to redefine marriage in all 50 states, the Pentagon is now being urged to “cleanse itself” of chaplains who refuse to support same-sex marriage.

Atheist Mikey Weinstein, president of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, is demanding the U.S. military conduct a purge of chaplains who holds to the traditional teaching of homosexuality and marriage espoused by the first commander in chief, George Washington.

Weinstein claims chaplains who are “maintaining the state of antagonism between their religion and the sexual/gender identities of service members” have no business serving in the military.

State Department Ejects Free Beacon Reporter from Briefing - from TRUNEWS

Officials with the Department of State threatened to call security Monday on a Washington Free Beacon reporter who was attempting to report on a briefing held by senior Obama administration figures in Vienna on the eve of an expected nuclear agreement with Iran.

Two State Department officials booted the Free Beacon from a room where Wendy Sherman, the undersecretary of state for political affairs, was talking to reporters, despite the Free Beacon’s being credentialed by the Austrian government for the ongoing Iranian nuclear talks.

Western observers present in Vienna for the talks linked the State Department’s behavior to jitters over media coverage revealing a still growing list of concessions being made to Iran by the Obama administration.

Texas AG says clerks can cite religious objections on gay marriage, most states complying with ruling - from TRUNEWS

The top law enforcement official in Texas said county clerks can cite religious objections in denying marriage licenses for gay couples — though the Lone Star State and others have for the most part started complying with Friday’s Supreme Court ruling legalizing same-sex marriage.

Despite initial resistance in several of the 14 states that did not previously allow same-sex marriage, top officials in those states by Monday said they planned to comply. Among them were officials in Mississippi and Louisiana.

Even staunch conservative critics acknowledge states will have to, in the near-term, follow the court ruling.

But Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, a Republican, released a statement suggesting the next battle over gay marriage may be over how to balance that ruling with First Amendment religious freedoms. He predicted clerks and others could be at the center of it.

WikiLeaks: EU Diplomat Interpreted US TPP as Hostile to China - from TRUNEWS

A European Union (EU) trade expert secretly told a French economics minister that America’s Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) seemed designed to provoke a confrontation with China, according to a US intelligence intercept published on WikiLeaks.

“[The EU Trade Section head Hiddo] Houben stated [to French Minister-Counselor Jean-Francois Boittin] that the TPP… seems devised as a confrontation with China,” the document, one of seven published by WikiLeaks on Monday, said.

The TPP is an ambitious trade pact negotiated between the United States and 12 Asian and Pacific Rim nations covering 40 percent of the world economy. The pact excludes China.

Houben pointed out that Washington was “negotiating with every nation that borders China, asking for commitments that exceed those countries’ administrative capacities, so as to ‘confront’ Beijing.”

Hecklers call televangelist Joel Osteen ‘a liar’ during sermon - from TRUNEWS

Attendee Anwar Richardson shot grainy video of security removing the hecklers from the megachurch. The congregation clapped as they were removed and Osteen tried to continue delivering his message, but the disruptions continued.

“The praise and worship was good,” Richardson said. “His wife had just delivered a quick message and the moment he started to preach somebody gets up and they yell, ‘Joel Osteen, you’re a liar’.”

Richardson was visiting family from Austin and decided to leave when the interruptions became persistent.

“After the sixth time it occurred, my son was sleeping in my lap and I looked at my wife and she was nervous,” Richardson said. “We just decided we have to get out of here.”

He wasn’t alone. Several other worshippers also left due to the hecklers.

“(Osteen) kept on going – he kept his composure,” another churchgoer said. “He got the message out. He said ‘no weapon formed against me shall prosper.’ So, kudos to him for delivering a good service.”

What Additives Look Like Before They End Up in Your Food - from TRUNEWS

Food additives have been getting a lot of attention lately. In a quest to appeal to consumers who want more “natural” foods— whatever that really means—companies have been pulling artificial colors, preservatives, and other ingredients out of their formulations…I mean, recipes. General Mills is taking artificial ingredients out of all of its cereals. So is Subway, after an earlier (forced) decision to remove the leavener azodicarbonamide from its breads. The list goes on and on.

With multi-syllabic, difficult-to-pronounce names and manufacturing processes that sound more like the instructions for a nuclear reactor than a food processing plant, some of these ingredients make people wary of putting them in their bodies. But whether a food ingredient comes from natural sources—like the shellac, harvested from the resin of an insect, that coats some of your candy—or from a multi-step chemical process, the ways in which they make our food brighter, more appetizing, smoother, and safer are pretty impressive. And in almost all cases, perfectly safe.

PLA could use neutron bomb in event of US invasion - from TRUNEWS

Unconfirmed reports on various websites in China claim the People’s Liberation Army possesses a neutron bomb and would use it as a last resort against a potential US invasion, Duowei News, a news outlet run by overseas Chinese reported on June 26.

One online article said a neutron bomb could take out a US convoy of M1A2 Abrams main battle tank and M2A3 Bradley infantry fighting vehicles, killing all military personnel without doing significant damage to the vehicles themselves.

A neutron bomb sends a massive wave of neutron and gamma radiation that can penetrate armor or several feet of earth and is extremely destructive to living tissue. The bomb was developed to counter a potential Soviet invasion of Western Europe during the Cold War.

New missiles to be introduced to Chinese submarines - from TRUNEWS

The People’s Liberation Army Navy has been developing new missiles for its newly developed submarines, according to Moscow-based Military Parade in a June 25 report.

The PLA Navy currently uses Type 093 Shang-class nuclear-powered attack submarines and Type 039A Yuan-class and Type 039 Song-class diesel-electric submarines. These vessels are all currently equipped with YJ-82 cruise missiles. The YJ-82 is set to be replaced by the SS-N-13, however, which has an operational range of 222 kilometers, according to the website.

China is currently carrying out tests on its Type 096 Tang-class ballistic missile submarine. JL-3 submarine-launched ballistic missiles are also being tested and will likely replace the JL-2 missile. Equipped with a multiple independently targetable reentry vehicle, the JL-2 can carry between three and four warheads. It is estimated to have an attack range of 7,400 kilometers. When launched from the waters east of Hawaii, the entire United States is in range of the JL-2 missile.

NATO Military Buildup Close to Russia ‘Has no Parallel in Cold War History’ - from TRUNEWS

NATO’s largest military drills since the end of the Cold War will be held from September 28 until November 6.

Russia has repeatedly expressed its concerns over NATO’s increasing belligerence, which threatens to undermine security and stability in Europe. The bloc has persistently brushed aside these legitimate worries, saying all its activities are defensive in their nature.

Mike Huckabee Expects Civil Disobedience in Response to Gay Marriage Ruling - from TRUNEWS

“I don’t think a lot of pastors and Christian schools are going to have a choice,” the a former governor of Arkansas and Baptist minister said on ABC’s “This Week.” “They either are going to follow God, their conscience, and what they truly believe is what the scripture teaches them or they will follow civil law.”

Secret Russian Hypersonic Nuke Glider Can Pierce Any Missile Defense - from TRUNEWS

Extremely maneuverable, ultra-fast and elusive, the hypersonic Yu-71 can break through any missile defense system, military experts said. Russia has reportedly carried out four tests already.

Russia is test-launching a new hypersonic attack aircraft that can carry nuclear warheads and penetrate missile defense systems, US media said citing a report by Jane’s Information Group.

The development of the Yu-71 vehicle took several years, and Russia reportedly conducted the most recent test flight on February 26, with an SS-19 missile trying to deliver the Yu-71 to space. The new hypersonic aircraft is part of Moscow’s plans to modernize its Strategic Missile Forces.

Yu-71, a secret missile program codenamed “Project 4202″, has probable speed of up to 11,200 kmh (7,000 mph) and is extremely maneuverable, which makes it an incredibly dangerous and a hardly targetable weapon.

World stock markets tumble as Greece crisis deepens - from TRUNEWS

The Greek government decided on Sunday night it had no option but to close the nation’s banks the following day after the European Central Bank (ECB) raised the stakes by freezing the liquidity lifeline that has kept them afloat during a six-month run on deposits.

In London the FTSE 100 tumbled by 150 points – more than 2% – when trading began at 8am BST. There were even sharper falls across Europe, with the French and German markets both tumbling by 4%. European banking shares were the hardest hit, suffering losses of up to 10%.

Greece stands on the brink of bankruptcy - from TRUNEWS

Greece was facing economic collapse on Sunday night after the government announced that its banks would be closed for more than a week ahead of the country’s potential bankruptcy on Tuesday.

The country’s stockmarket was suspended and cash machine withdrawals across Greece were capped at €60 as banks began to run out of money.

Greece faces a debt default within 48 hours after the government made clear it will not repay a €1.5bn loan to the IMF that expires on Tuesday.

The move will see the government fall into an unprecedented arrears process, preventing any fresh release of bail-out cash from creditors. The state will then struggle to pay out a €1.6bn wages and salaries bill also due this week.

The next few days will transform Greece and Europe - from TRUNEWS

As it turns out, the Greek crisis ends not with a bang, but with a referendum.

It has been easy to ignore the doings in Greece for the past few years, with the perpetual series of summits in Brussels that never seem to resolve anything. But it’s time to pay attention. These next few days are shaping up to become a transformational moment in the 60-year project of building a unified Europe. We just don’t yet know what sort of transformation it will be.

The immediate headlines that got us to this point are these: After an intractable series of negotiations over a bailout extension with Greece’s creditors, the nation’s left-wing government left the table Friday and said it would hold a referendum July 5. Greek leaders think the offer on the table from European governments and the International Monetary Fund is lousy, requiring still more pension cuts and tax increases in a depressed economy, and intend to throw to voters the question of whether to accept it.

Whatever the exact phrasing of the question (and assuming the referendum goes forward as planned), it really boils down to this simple choice:

A “Yes” vote means that Greece will continue the grinding era of austerity that has caused so much pain to its citizens over the past five years, in exchange for keeping the euro currency and the monetary stability it provides.

A “No” vote almost certainly means that the country will walk away from the euro and create its own currency (which will surely devalue sharply), bringing financial chaos in the near term but creating the possibility of a rebound in the medium term as the country becomes more competitive with its devalued currency.

Pay with a flick of the wrist with new bPay wristband, key fob and sticker - from TRUNEWS

As services like Apple Pay shine a spotlight on the idea of paying for stuff without pulling out your wallet, UK credit card Barclaycard is introducing a new bPay-branded wristband, key fob and sticker that enable British shoppers to make contactless payments with a simple tap.

Contactless payment is widely supported in the UK and is becoming a common sight in other countries, including the US. Contactless credit and debit cards are now joined by phones that can pay for stuff, including the iPhone and Samsung Galaxy S6, as tech companies try to elbow their way into the retail and financial sectors.

By offering its own contactless devices, Barclaycard wants to keep the transaction fees from your purchases rather than seeing it taken by Apple or someone else, and by offering a range of devices Barclaycard is offering you more choice about how you pay for stuff in this new mobile payment age.

La. and Miss. last to hold out against same-sex marriage - from TRUNEWS

In historical development, the Supreme Court ruled same-sex couples have the constitutional right to marry, but two states – Mississippi and Louisiana – are holding off.

On Friday in the 5-4 ruling, the ruling majority declared the 14th Amendment requires all states to perform same-sex marriages and recognize same-sex marriages performed in other states.

Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood claims his state is still caught up in a legal order from an ongoing gay marriage lawsuit; therefore, the Supreme Court ruling is not immediately effective.

Texas Attorney General: religious objections trump SCOTUS same-sex marriage ruling - from TRUNEWS

Texas is lawyering up in a fight against the U.S. Supreme Court’s historic ruling on same-sex marriage.

State Attorney General Ken Paxton issued an opinion on Sunday, claiming clerks, judges and justices of the peace could dodge their legal responsibilities to issue licenses and perform weddings based on their religious beliefs.

Paxton advises clerks opposed to the Supreme Court’s “lawless” opinion could pawn off their work of issuing licenses to more liberal-minded deputies.

He acknowledged the clerks run the risk of being sued and fined.

“But, numerous lawyers stand ready to assist clerks defending their religious beliefs, in many cases on a pro-bono basis, and I will do everything I can from this office to be a public voice for those standing in defense of their rights,” he said in a tough-talking statement.

Religious leaders reject gay marriage ruling as legal battles loom - from TRUNEWS

In the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision declaring same-sex marriage a constitutional right, the battleground is shifting to religious freedom and whether religious people and/or churches can be compelled to sanction behavior contrary to their religious beliefs.

The court’s 5-4 ruling on Friday directs states to grant marriage licenses to same-sex couples, but doesn’t address the actions of churches or other private groups. Conservatives and religious leaders say the decision is certain to embolden liberal activists and accelerate legal clashes between supporters of gay marriage and religious groups who don’t accept same-sex marriage.

“We’re going to see pretty quickly what Pandora’s box is, because Christians are going to be told — are already being told — that they have no legal right to not participate,” said Gary Bauer, president of the nonprofit group American Values. “The early signs are not good.”

ISIS slaughters more than 200 civilians near Syrian border - from TRUNEWS

ISIS butchered more than 200 civilians — including women and children — in the Syrian border town of Kobani before being killed or driven out by Kurdish fighters, activists said Saturday.

The civilians killed in the last two days include some who died in ISIS suicide bombings, including one at the border crossing with Turkey, but they were mostly shot dead — some in their own homes, reportedly in revenge killings.

Others were caught in the crossfire as battles raged along streets or were randomly targeted by the group’s snipers from rooftops.

SpaceX rocket explodes on its way to International Space Station, delivering a severe blow to NASA - from TRUNEWS

An unmanned SpaceX rocket carrying supplies and the first-of-its-kind docking port to the International Space Station broke apart Sunday shortly after liftoff. It was a severe blow to NASA, still reeling from previous failed shipments.

The accident occurred about 2 1/2 minutes into the flight from Cape Canaveral, Florida. Pieces could be seen falling into the Atlantic Ocean. More than 5,200 pounds (2,360 kilograms) of space station cargo were on board, including the first docking port designed for future commercial crew capsules.

“The vehicle has broken up,” announced NASA commentator George Diller. He said it was not clear how the disaster occurred or even when the rocket actually failed. Data stopped flowing from the Falcon 9 rocket around 2 minutes and 19 seconds into the flight, he said. No astronauts were on board.

US military needs to rethink its precision strike portfolio - from TRUNEWS

The US military is overly invested in short-range direct attack bombs and not enough in long-range, stealthy smart weapons and aircraft, and this must change if it ever expects to challenge the air defences of nations like China, Russia, Iran or North Korea.

That’s the assessment of the Washington-based Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments, which released a new report this week on “sustaining America’s precision-strike advantage”.

The crux of the argument presented by authors Mark Gunzinger and Bryan Clark is that while shorter-range weapons like joint direct attack munitions (JDAMs) and small diameter bombs (SDBs) have kill rates as high as 100% when an aircraft can get close to its target, that won’t be possible in large force-on-force salvo against large military force that has its own guided, smart weapons.

The report echoes what US generals have been saying for years, that America’s military investments are weighted towards supporting counterinsurgency operations in Iraq, Afghanistan and now Syria – where coalition combat jets and bombers operate with relative impunity.

Lutheran pastor says Jews to blame for destroying Christian values after US approves gay marriage - from TRUNEWS

Mark Dankof, a Lutheran pastor and political activist, declared the Jews to blame for the Supreme Court’s ruling on Friday which declared any law to ban gay marriage unconstitutional.

Speaking to reporters from Iran’s Press TV, Dankof insisted that Jewish influence and money were being used to destroy Christian culture and values globally.

“It should not be ignored that the victories for abortion on demand and LGBT rights are reflective of the disproportionate influence of Jewish power, money, and activism in the United States,” he declared.

“The key Jewish role played in the mainstreaming of abortion, LGBT, and pornography in the United States may be documented in Google search, especially in looking at the Frankfurt School and its Institute for Social Research,” added Dankof.

China plans to launch yuan gold fix by end of 2015 - from TRUNEWS

China plans to launch a yuan-denominated gold fix by the end of 2015 via the Shanghai Gold Exchange (SGE), in a move aimed at giving the world’s biggest bullion producer and consumer more influence over pricing.

The first public confirmation made by an exchange official comes after Reuters cited sources in February on the proposal for the fix to be set through trading on the SGE, the world’s biggest physical bullion exchange.

“We will be introducing a renminbi-denominated fix at the right moment, we are hoping to introduce by the end of the year,” Shen Gang, SGE’s vice president, said at the LBMA Bullion Market Forum in Shanghai on Thursday.

500+ gay pride youth engulfed in flames in Taiwan as Biblical-scale firestorm spontaneously ignites, raining down fire from above - from TRUNEWS

A gay pride youth party in Taiwan went horribly wrong last night as a special effect consisting of huge clouds of rainbow-colored glitter particles was launched into the air over the partygoers. To the shock and horror of everyone, the metallic glitter ignited, raining down a firestorm of death upon hundreds of attendees who were engulfed in flames.

If you wish to donate to help support aid to the victims of this tragic event, here’s the donation page of the Tzu Chi Foundation, whose Chinese language page describes what they’re doing to help treat victims of this event, which they refer to as a “rainbow party.”

The lying leftist media is ashamed to admit this was a gay pride event! But as the following photos show, it was sponsored by an openly gay organization featuring a sperm logo and gay men associated with an international gay modeling organization. I’m not blaming gays for this horrible tragedy, but let’s not be ridiculous and try to claim this gay pride rainbow party wasn’t a gay pride rainbow party. It clearly was. I thought now that gay marriage was out in the open and made universal by the Supreme Court, we didn’t have to hide talking about all this anymore. Apparently, I underestimated the degree to which people still want to keep all this in the closet when it comes to gay pride public events. Somehow, it’s still wrong to refer to gay pride events as gay pride events…

Obama: Justice arrives ‘like a thunderbolt’ - from TRUNEWS

President Obama on Friday hailed a Supreme Court decision legalizing same-sex marriage nationwide, saying justice has arrived “like a thunderbolt” for gay and lesbian couples.

“They’ve reaffirmed that all Americans are entitled to the equal protection of the law, that all people should be treated equally,” Obama said in the Rose Garden.

Obama said the ruling ends uncertainty for same-sex couples by ending the “patchwork” system of marriage laws in the United States.

“Sometimes there are days like this, when that slow, steady effort is rewarded with justice that arrives like a thunderbolt,” Obama said.

Obama opposed same-sex marriage when he was first elected president in 2008. He backed it before the 2012 election, saying his views had been “evolving” during his time in the White House.

Supreme Court rules gay couples nationwide have a right to marry - from TRUNEWS

The Supreme Court on Friday delivered a historic victory for gay rights, ruling 5 to 4 that the Constitution requires that same-sex couples be allowed to marry no matter where they live and that states may no longer reserve the right only for heterosexual couples.

The court’s action marks the culmination of an unprecedented upheaval in public opinion and the nation’s jurisprudence. Advocates called it the most pressing civil rights issue of modern times, while critics said the courts had sent the country into uncharted territory by changing the traditional definition of marriage.

“Under the Constitution, same-sex couples seek in marriage the same legal treatment as opposite-sex couples, and it would disparage their choices and diminish their personhood to deny them this right,” Justice Anthony Kennedy wrote in the majority opinion. He was joined in the ruling by the court’s liberal justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Stephen G. Breyer, Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan.

Sodom & Gomorrah - from TRUNEWS

Genesis tells us that God thoroughly destroyed “the cities of the plain”, including Sodom and Gomorrah. God said, “The outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is so great and their sin so grievous that I will go down and see if what they have done is as bad as the outcry that has reached me. If not, I will know.” And it says, “Then the LORD rained down burning sulphur on Sodom and Gomorrah – from the LORD out of the heavens.” And, “… God destroyed the cities of the plain.”

The five cities of the plain have been located and the evidence is staggering. For the first time in modern history we have found round balls of brimstone, or nearly pure sulfur, embedded in an ashen area near the Dead Sea, which show clear signs of having once been ancient building structures!

Supreme Court: Same-sex couples can marry in all 50 states - from TRUNEWS

The Supreme Court ruled Friday that same-sex couples have a right to marry nationwide, in a historic decision that invalidates gay marriage bans in more than a dozen states.

Gay and lesbian couples already can marry in 36 states and the District of Columbia. The court’s 5-4 ruling on Friday means the remaining 14 states, in the South and Midwest, will have to stop enforcing their bans on same-sex marriage.

The outcome is the culmination of two decades of Supreme Court litigation over marriage, and gay rights generally.

Justice Anthony Kennedy wrote the majority opinion, just as he did in the court’s previous three major gay rights cases dating back to 1996.

Cheers broke out outside the Supreme Court when the decision was announced.

“No union is more profound than marriage,” Kennedy wrote, joined by the court’s four more liberal justices.

President Obama tweeted: “Today is a big step in our march toward equality.”

He said: “Anyone who thinks they can control escalation through the use of nuclear weapons is literally playing with fire.”

PLA’s J-11 fighters likely to be deployed in South China Sea - from TRUNEWS

The tension caused by territorial disputes in the South China Sea seems unlikely to ease in the near future, given the almost-completion of Chinese runways on reclaimed land and Beijing’s possible deployment of J-11 fighter jets there, according to a Hong Kong newspaper report.

If China goes ahead, the deployment in the Spratly islands, which China and Taiwan call Nansha, “would dramatically extend the reach of the nation’s military beyond its southernmost base at Sanya on Hainan island,” said the June 21 report published in the English-language South China Morning Post, citing unnamed analysts.

However, the report said the jets, built based on the Soviet-designed Su-27, would be limited to a defensive role because it is an older model outclassed by aircraft in the US Air Force.

The report said the J-11s have a range of 1,500 kilometers, which can be extended with additional fuel tanks. “Setting up operations on the islands would move the reach of China’s air force about 1,000 km further south, and in conjunction with the Liaoning aircraft carrier, take China towards its stated goal of moving away from offshore defense to open-sea protection,” it said.

Is China Building a Military Base in Djibouti? - from TRUNEWS

In May, Djibouti’s president announced that China was in talks for setting a military base in the small nation in the Horn of Africa. And though Beijing has declined to confirm the reports, the news has already raised some concerns in Washington.

As a fairly stable country positioned between Yemen and Somalia, Djibouti plays an important strategic role for the US. The country additionally overlooks the Bab al-Mandeb straits, one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world.

The US military’s headquarters in the region, Camp Lemonnier, is based in the country and is used for covert operations, including anti-terror, in Yemen, Somalia, and across Africa.

Djibouti’s port has been used by European and other navies, including China’s, to fight against piracy from neighboring Somalia. Japan and France also have military bases located there.

China Is ‘Leading Suspect’ in Massive Hack of US Government Networks - from TRUNEWS

The nation’s top intelligence official said today what other U.S. officials have so far been unwilling to say publicly: China is “the leading suspect” in the massive theft of sensitive U.S. government records.

“You have to kind of salute the Chinese for what they did,” Clapper said.

At least 18 million people — and potentially tens of millions more around the world, including relatives, friends and associates of those who had background checks conducted by the U.S. government — may have had their personal information stolen when hackers broke into the systems of the Office of Personnel Management, authorities have said.

Bank of Canada calls for more cross-border financial integration with U.S. - from TRUNEWS

The Bank of Canada is calling for more financial integration with the United States as a way to ease cross-border trade and banking.

Deputy governor Lawrence Schembri said Thursday that markets have begun to fragment due to inconsistencies created by the policy reforms that followed the financial crisis — such as the Dodd-Frank Act in the U.S.

In a speech in Windsor, Ont., Schembri said Canada and other jurisdictions have been caught in the middle and now face rising costs to cross-border trade.

He also said new rules in the U.S. have piled legal and administrative costs on Canadian banks with operations on American soil.

“We both have much to gain by strengthening financial integration between our two countries,” he told the Windsor-Essex Regional Chamber of Commerce.

California lawmakers approve mandatory vaccinations at public schools - from TRUNEWS

California’s Assembly on Thursday approved a hotly contested bill requiring that nearly all public schoolchildren be vaccinated, clearing one of its last major legislative obstacles before the measure heads to the desk of Gov. Jerry Brown.

The bill aims to increase immunization rates after a measles outbreak linked to Disneyland in December sickened over 100 people in the US and Mexico.

It would give California one of the nation’s strictest vaccine laws by striking the state’s personal-belief exemption. Only children with serious health issues would be allowed to opt out of mandatory vaccine schedules. Unvaccinated children would need to be homeschooled.

“Do we wait until we have a full-fledged crisis to protect the most vulnerable?” Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez (D-San Diego) asked as she presented the bill.

Lois Lerner Hard Drive ‘Likely Crashed Due To An Impact’ - from TRUNEWS

“When asked about the possible cause of the hard drive failure, the HP technician opined that heat-related failures are not seen often, and based on the information provided to him, the hard drive more than likely crashed due to an impact of some sort. However, because the HP technician did not examine the hard drive as part of his work on the laptop, it could not be determined why it crashed.”

But the purging is far from over.

Now, the revolutionaries are now targeting US military bases named after Confederate war heroes.

Scalia Blasts Obamacare Ruling: ‘Words Have No Meaning’ - from TRUNEWS

The Supreme Court of the United States effectively rewrote the text of Obamacare to save the legislation.

By a 6-3 majority, the Court upheld the Fourth Circuit’s decision in King v. Burwell and decided that federal subsidies were available on state Obamacare exchanges, even though the text of the so-called Affordable Care Act said that such subsidies were only available on “State” exchanges.

The majority acknowledged that the word “State” was, at best, “ambiguous.” And it rejected the idea that an executive agency, in this case the Internal Revenue Service, could decide the meaning of that term.

California lawmakers on Thursday approved one of the toughest mandatory vaccination requirements in the nation, moving to end exemptions from state immunization laws based on religious or other personal beliefs.

Those with medical conditions such as allergies and immune-system deficiencies, confirmed by a physician, would be excused from immunization. And parents could still decline to vaccinate children who attend private home-based schools or public independent studies off campus.

Student allegedly threatened with failing grade for including Biblical references in group presentation - from TRUNEWS

Wisconsin college student Rachel Langeberg claims she was advised to remove them and threatened by her professor with a failing grade after she included references to the Bible in a graded group presentation.

Warren Buffett: Derivatives Are Still Weapons Of Mass Destruction And ‘Are Likely To Cause Big Trouble’ - from TRUNEWS

After all these years, the most famous investor in the world still believes that derivatives are financial weapons of mass destruction. And you know what? He is exactly right. The next great global financial collapse that so many are warning about is nearly upon us, and when it arrives derivatives are going to play a starring role. When many people hear the word “derivatives”, they tend to tune out because it is a word that sounds very complicated. And without a doubt, derivatives can be enormously complex. But what I try to do is to take complex subjects and break them down into simple terms. At their core, derivatives represent nothing more than a legalized form of gambling. A derivative is essentially a bet that something either will or will not happen in the future. Ultimately, someone will win money and someone will lose money. There are hundreds of trillions of dollars worth of these bets floating around out there, and one of these days this gigantic time bomb is going to go off and absolutely cripple the entire global financial system.

Back in 2002, legendary investor Warren Buffett shared the following thoughts about derivatives with shareholders of Berkshire Hathaway…

The derivatives genie is now well out of the bottle, and these instruments will almost certainly multiply in variety and number until some event makes their toxicity clear. Central banks and governments have so
far found no effective way to control, or even monitor, the risks posed by these contracts. In my view, derivatives are financial weapons of mass destruction, carrying dangers that, while now latent, are potentially lethal.

Icahn warns market is ‘extremely overheated’ - from TRUNEWS

Activist investor Carl Icahn took to Twitter and CNBC Wednesday to issue a stark warning to investors: “I think the public is walking into a trap again as they did in 2007,” Icahn told CNBC.

Specifically, the 79-year-old investor warned of a bubble in high-yield debt. The prominent investor joins a chorus of voices pointing at frothiness in the so-called junk-bond market, including DoubleLine Capital founder Jeff Gundlach.

In two tweets published on Wednesday, Icahn cautioned against listening to so-called permabulls, saying the 2008 crisis might have been avoided if more investors had warned about the risk of a bubble in 2007, as he is attempting to do now.

Obama, Clinton Hail Gay Marriage Rights on Eve of Ruling - from TRUNEWS

President Obama and Hillary Clinton Wednesday each found openings to publicly celebrate gay rights and marriage equality leading up to a June Supreme Court ruling that is widely expected to energize the 2016 political bloodstream, no matter how it comes down.

During an East Room event to celebrate LGBT Pride Month, Obama said, “We’re now awaiting the Supreme Court’s ruling on whether same-sex couples nationwide have the equal right to marry,” adding that a verdict on a key element of the Affordable Care Act also hangs in the balance as the high court’s session comes to a close.

“There are a few decisions coming down these next few days that I’m paying close attention to,” he confided to a raucous standing-room-only audience during a reception.

NATO: Russian ‘aggression’ in Ukraine must be countered - from TRUNEWS

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said Wednesday the alliance will not get dragged into an arms race with Russia but must counter Moscow’s “aggressive actions” in Ukraine.

Defence ministers are due to approve measures including more than doubling NATO’s rapid response force, while the US on Tuesday announced it would pre-position heavy weapons on the alliance’s eastern flank.

Russia has denounced the moves as Cold War-style provocations while upgrading its own armed forces, including with more than 40 new nuclear ballistic missiles this year.

“We will not be dragged into an arms race but we must keep our countries safe,” Stoltenberg said as the meeting opened at NATO HQ in Brussels.

Pentagon Rushing to Open Space-War Center To Counter China, Russia - from TRUNEWS

The Pentagon and intelligence community are developing war plans and an operations center to fend off Chinese and Russian attacks on U.S. military and government satellites.

The ops center, to be opened within six months, will receive data from satellites belonging to all government agencies, Deputy Defense Secretary Robert Work said Tuesday at the GEOINT symposium, an annual intelligence conference sponsored by the United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation.

“[W]e are going to develop the tactics, techniques, procedures, rules of the road that would allow us … to fight the architecture and protect it while it’s under attack,” Work said. “The ugly reality that we must now all face is that if an adversary were able to take space away from us, our ability to project decisive power across transoceanic distances and overmatch adversaries in theaters once we get there … would be critically weakened.”

Nato to review nuclear weapon policy as attitude to Russia hardens - from TRUNEWS

Nato, in an echo of the cold war, is preparing to re-evaluate its nuclear weapons strategy in response to growing tension with Russia over Ukraine, sources at the organisation have said.

Updating Nato’s nuclear policy would amount to an escalation in tit-for-tat exchanges with Russia since the Ukraine crisis erupted last year. Expressing concern over President Vladimir Putin’s announcement last week that Russia was to buy 40 new intercontinental ballistic missiles, Nato officials also said there was alarm over Russian rhetoric on nuclear weapons and the extent to which such weapons are involved in military exercises.

A Nato diplomat said: “There is very real concern about the way in which Russia publicly bandies around nuclear stuff. So there are quite a lot of deliberations in the alliance about nuclear [weapons], but it is being done very slowly and deliberately. We need to do due diligence on where we are.”

The issue is being discussed on the margins of a two-day Nato ministerial meeting that began in Brussels on Wednesday. But the US is keen to get the issue on the table and a meeting of Nato’s ministerial nuclear planning group is likely to be held later this year – earlier than planned – to discuss refreshing the nuclear doctrine.

Vladimir Putin extends sanctions on West - from TRUNEWS

Russian President Vladimir Putin has extended a ban against most Western food imports for a year after EU foreign ministers agreed to prolong sanctions against Moscow over the Ukraine conflict.

“The government turned to me with an appeal to extend the measures,” Mr Putin told a government meeting on Wednesday.

“In accordance with this letter today I signed a decree to extend certain special economic measures with a view to ensuring Russia’s security,” he said in comments released by the Kremlin.

“We are extending our retaliatory measures by one year beginning from today.”

U.S. Power Grid Being Hit With ‘Increasing’ Hacking Attacks, Government Warns - from TRUNEWS

Major attacks on the U.S. power grid system are “increasing,” with hackers stepping up efforts to penetrate critical systems and to implant malicious software that could compromise the power grid and result in a nationwide crisis, according to a government report.

While experts have long signaled that the U.S. power grid and related systems are vulnerable to physical attacks by terrorists and other individuals, the U.S. government is now warning that sensitive computer systems that maintain the grid are increasingly being attacked, according to a Congressional Research Service (CRS) report that was not made public until the Federation of American Scientists (FAS) disclosed it this month.

The report warns that hackers potentially affiliated with terrorist groups or rogue nations have the ability to insert harmful malware into the internal systems governing the U.S. grid, which increasingly are being hooked into the Internet.

IRS Erased Backups After Loss of Tea Party Emails - from TRUNEWS

IRS employees erased computer backup tapes a month after officials discovered that thousands of emails related to the tax agency’s tea party scandal had been lost, according to government investigators.

The investigators, however, concluded that employees erased the tapes by mistake, not as part of an attempt to destroy evidence.

As many as 24,000 emails were lost because 422 backup tapes were erased, according to J. Russell George, the Treasury inspector general for tax administration. George says those tapes “most likely” contained emails to and from former IRS official Lois Lerner, who has emerged as a central figure in congressional investigations.

The revelation is likely to fuel conspiracy theories among conservatives who say the IRS has obstructed investigations into the scandal.

George is scheduled to testify before the House Oversight Committee Thursday morning about his investigation into the emails. The Associated Press obtained a copy of his prepared testimony.

Bush, Trump score post-announcement bumps - from TRUNEWS

There’s been a lineup change in the race for the GOP nomination, as businessman Donald Trump moves up after declaring his candidacy. He’s now second in the order after former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, who also got an uptick in support after his formal announcement.

For Democrats, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is still — by far — the team leader, according to a new Fox News national poll on the 2016 presidential election.

Bush tops the list of GOP contenders with 15 percent support among Republican primary voters. That’s up from 12 percent last month and his best showing yet. Support for Trump more than doubled since his announcement and that catapults him into the top tier at 11 percent. He’s followed by retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson at 10 percent. No one else receives double-digit backing.

Bush officially kicked off his campaign June 15 and Trump launched June 16. It’s common for candidates to see a bump in their numbers in the days following their formal announcement and the media coverage that comes with that.

Japan’s army chief lays wreath and warns China over disputed islands in South China Sea - from TRUNEWS

THE chief of Japan’s Army General Kiyofumi Iwata gently placed a photograph of Petty Officer Masao Tsuzuku inside the conning tower of the tiny Japanese submarine and bowed his head in silent tribute on Wendesday on the banks of Sydney Harbour.

More than 73 years after two midget submarines attacked the harbour and killed 21 Australian sailors asleep on board the support vessel HMAS Kuttabul, General Iwata and a dozen Japanese officers paid their respects with a wreath laying at the Memorial to the dead Australians and another on the remains of submarine M-22.

But it was the photograph of Petty Officer Tsuzuku, one of the four sailors lost after breaching Sydney Harbour’s defences on May 31, 1942 inside two tiny submarines to undertake one of the most daring missions of the war, that took pride of place at the RAN’s Garden Island Heritage Centre.

The young officer’s niece had asked the delegation, hosted by Commodore Lee Goddard and the CO of HMAS Kuttabul Commander Rebecca Jeffcoat, to place the photo of her uncle with the remains of the tiny vessel.

NASA and US Nuclear Security Administration working on possibility of nuking dangerous asteroids and comets - from TRUNEWS

NASA is working with the US Nuclear Security Administration at the possibility of using nuclear bombs to destroy hazardous asteroids and comets heading towards Earth.

In a new partnership to defend Earth and its populations, the two bodies are looking at how to deflect and/or stop around one million near-Earth asteroids that could threaten cities and, in the case of a very large asteroid, the planet, New York Times reported.

Only a tiny fraction of those asteroids have been detected and can be tracked.

As in the 1998 film Armageddon — where Bruce Willis flies a space shuttle to an oncoming asteroid to drill a warhead into its core — the nuclear payload could be delivered by rocket.

“Often, these agencies focus on their own pieces of the puzzle, so anything that brings them together is a good thing,’ Bruce Betts, director of science and technology at the Planetary Society told the Times.

Former Obama advisers warn against emerging Iran deal - from TRUNEWS

Several former members of President Barack Obama’s inner circle were among a bipartisan group of 18 diplomats, legislators, and experts to warn against the emerging nuclear deal with Iran and to urge the US administration to address Israel’s concerns regarding the

In a public statement issued to the press Wednesday, the group said the deal being negotiated between the P5+1 and Iran “may fall short of meeting the administration’s own standard of a ‘good’ agreement’ and laid out a series of key requirements it said Iran should agree to ahead of the June 30 target date for the deal.

Christian groups return to Cal State but can’t block non-Christian leaders - from TRUNEWS

Two Christian groups booted last year from California State University for insisting that their student leaders must be Christian are scheduled to return in the fall after making what could be described as a leap of faith.

InterVarsity Christian Fellowship and Campus Crusade for Christ, now Cru, have agreed to modify their bylaws so that students may apply for leadership posts without having made a formal profession of Christian belief, CSU Director of Public Affairs Toni Molle said.

“We can’t have clubs that discriminate. We didn’t change our executive order,” Ms. Molle said in an interview. “The charters and bylaws for InterVarsity and Cru have been modified to be in compliance with our executive order.”

That 2011 executive order, issued by CSU Chancellor Charles B. Reed in one of his last acts before retiring, requires student groups to allow “all comers” to join as well as run for leadership posts, even if the candidate’s beliefs conflict with that of the organization.
