Senate Minority Whip William Payne (R-Albuquerque) put forward a new proposal last week that calls on New Mexico’s top elections officials to study the feasibility of integrating biometrics at election polls, according to a report by Star Tribune.
“This could put to rest the criticism that voters cannot afford to produce reliable photo identification when they vote,” Payne said. “Everyone has an eyeball or thumb that could be scanned for identification. No need to produce a photo ID.”

Yousaf al Salafi – allegedly the Pakistan commander of Islamic State (IS) or Daish – has confessed during investigations that he has been receiving funds through the United States.
Law enforcing agencies on January 22 claimed that they arrested al Salafi, along with his two companions, during a joint raid in Lahore. However, sources revealed that al Salafi was actually arrested sometimes in December last year and it was only disclosed on January 22.
“During the investigations, Yousaf al Salafi revealed that he was getting funding – routed through America – to run the organisation in Pakistan and recruit young people to fight in Syria,” a source privy to the investigations revealed to Daily Express on the condition of anonymity.

The Iranian website Shia-online published a threat to harm the children of Israeli top officials in response to Israel’s strike on Syria that killed a Hezbollah commander.
According to MEMRI’s (The Middle East Media Research Institute) Jihad and Terrorism Threat Monitor, the report published last week on the Iranian website included a photograph of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s family.

‘Obama army’ deploys to Tel Aviv to topple Netanyahu - from TRUNEWS
A consulting firm almost entirely composed of former staffers of President Obama’s re-election campaign has been hired to run an election effort in Israel aimed at defeating Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The conservative blogosphere is reporting Jeremy Bird, national field director for Obama’s 2012 campaign, is now working for a new non-profit group, V15, that is running an effort to defeat Netanyahu in the upcoming election.

The asteroid that skimmed by Earth last night has its own moon - from TRUNEWS
An unusually large asteroid that just skimmed by Earth had its own moon, NASA has said as the US space agency released its first radar images of the flyby.
The asteroid known as 2004 BL86 made its closest approach late on Monday at a distance about three times further than Earth’s own Moon.
Radar images from NASA’s Deep Space Network antenna in Goldstone, California show that the asteroid itself was about 150 metres smaller than expected, and measured about 325m across. The asteroid’s small moon was approximately 70m across.

DEA tracks millions of drivers in real time - from TRUNEWS
Less than two weeks after reports revealed that the Justice Department’s Drug Enforcement Administration tracked Americans calls for over a decade, new documents show that the same agency has been building a national database to track vehicles in real time around the country.
The license-plate tracking program was set up by the DEA assist in the seizure of cars, cash and other assets to combat drug trafficking, The Wall Street Journal reported Monday.

Experts Unmask ‘Regin’ Trojan as NSA Tool - from TRUNEWS
Earlier this month, SPIEGEL International published an article based on the trove of documents made available by whistleblower Edward Snowden describing the increasingly complex digital weapons being developed by intelligence services in the US and elsewhere. Concurrently, several documents were published as well as the source code of a sample malware program called QWERTY found in the Snowden archive.
For most readers, that source code was little more than 11 pages of impenetrable columns of seemingly random characters. But experts with the Russian IT security company Kaspersky compared the code with malware programs they have on file. What they found were clear similarities with an elaborate cyber-weapon that has been making international headlines since November of last year.

FTC Warns of the Huge Security Risks in the Internet of Things - from TRUNEWS
There’s danger lurking in the Internet of Things.
At least, that’s the word from the Federal Trade Commission. On Tuesday, the government watchdog released a detailed report urging businesses to take some concrete steps in protecting the privacy and security of American consumers.
According to the FTC, 25 billion objects are already online worldwide, gathering information using sensors and communicating with each other over the internet, and this number is growing, with consumer goods companies, auto manufacturers, healthcare providers, and so many other businesses investing in the new breed of connected devices.
