California Gov. Jerry Brown has signed legislation outlawing a family’s personal and religious beliefs as reasons to exempt their children from school vaccinations.
“The science is clear that vaccines dramatically protect children against a number of infectious and dangerous diseases,” Brown said in a letter to the state Senate.

The controversial proposal, arising partly from concerns over this year’s measles outbreak linked to Disneyland, would allow medical exemptions deemed appropriate by the State Department of Public Health, according to a legislative summary.
