Greek islands on verge of collapse as THOUSANDS of migrants arrive in just three days - from TRUNEWS

About 5,000 people – mainly from Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq – have arrived on the island of Lesbos to horrendous conditions as they pack into a 700-capacity centre.

Desperate migrants are suffering from overcrowding, poor hygiene conditions and a lack of food on the island – which is just one of two in Greece set up to take on asylum seekers.

Thousands of new arrivals have been forced to camp in the open with no access to water, shelter, toilets or medical care.

Authorities are attempting to distribute food but there is not enough to feed the swelling numbers arriving on the island every day from war-stricken countries.

On the island of Kos – the only other migrant centre in Greece – 700 people are sleeping on the floor among rubble and shattered glass in a dilapidated building with a maximum capacity of 200 people, charity Médicins Sans Frontières (MSF) reports.
