Democratic Presidential frontrunner Hillary Clinton is set to make an appearance at a fundraiser next week in Evanston, Illinois. She’ll be stopping by a lavish party thrown in the mansion of real estate developer Eric Janssen. Everyone who attends has to pony up $2700 to attend the two-hour function.
For that $2700, however, donors will get to pose for a photo with Clinton, as well as automatically becoming members of Clinton’s Hillstarter program. They’ll also be invited to a brief reception.
New figures from the Social Security Administration show that the median age for working Americans in 2014 was $28,851 per year. That’s $554.82 each week before taxes. So, in order to afford the $2,700 cost to attend the Clinton event, the average American would need to work almost five weeks (and pay no taxes).
Clinton’s campaign slogan for 2016 seems a bit ironic in light of the high-dollar soiree, “Everyday Americans need a champion. I want to be that champion.”
