During a congressional hearing Tuesday, defense officials expressed their opposition to a military judge’s decision to bar female guards from transporting detainees at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
Last week Senator Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) visited the prison with Senators Tim Scott (R-SC) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV).
“My impression is that this is not an insult to Islam but an insult to every woman willing to die for her country,” she said.
In January the judge issued the order after some of the defendants, including Kahlid Sheikh Mohammad complained physical contact with the women violated their Muslim faith.
Many Christian groups claim the ruling is the equivalent of imposing Sharia law.
