In Texas, a seventh-grader said a teacher gave her class an assignment requiring students to say God is a myth – or else they would receive a failing grade.
Jordan Wooley is a student at West Memorial Junior High in the Katy Independent School District. She recently related to the school board that her class was given an assignment asking them to identify whether certain statements were facts, opinions, or myths.
On one of the statements, “There is a God,” the teacher only allowed students the option of writing ‘myth,’ or else fail the assignment. Wooley said that any student who tried to argue the point was threatened with punishment.
Wooley spoke to the school board saying, “today I was given an assignment in school that questioned my faith and told me that God was not real. We were asked to take a poll to say whether God is fact, opinion or a myth and she told anyone who said fact or opinion that they were wrong and God was only a myth,” according to local TV station KHOU.
The child said her teacher asked her to prove the existence of God, so she referenced the Bible and people who died and went to Heaven but came back to tell about their experiences.
