China’s President Touts Human Rights Despite Dismal Record - from TRUNEWS

Demonstrators protested for a third day Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Britain and statements he made in a press conference about China being a proponent of human rights protections.

But many groups claim the human rights abuses, specifically Christian persecution has grown worse under the current leadership.

“It’s on a level we haven’t seen in decades,” said Kody Kness, Vice President of China Aid, a non-profit Christian group committed to promoting religious freedom.

Some members of the parliament in the U.K. have expressed concern. But overall leaders are being accused of looking the other way when it comes to China’s human rights record. According to Open Doors, China is ranked as the 29th worst country for Christian persecution.

Christian activities are closely watched by the government. Many house churches are shut down or and labeled as being cults. Church buildings are demolished. Recently, two pastors were found guilty of cult activities and sent to prison after a police raid on worship services in a factory. Twenty others were taken into custody, including a pregnant woman, small children and babies.

China Aid has reported Huang Yizi, the pastor of a church in Zhejiang has been detained for nearly six weeks without access to a lawyer. He has been accused of selling secrets. Last year he was arrested for asking the government to investigate an official accused of assaulting Christians during a church demolition.
