The school district in Bremerton, Washington has denied the religious accommodation request of a football coach – now he is suing.
Bremerton High School coach Joe Kennedy has come under fire for praying after games. He began the practice many years ago at the 50-yard line, after students and other coaches left the field. Several players started joining him, of their own free will, which is when the school starting sending Kennedy letters, asking that he stop.
Today Liberty Legal Institute issued legal proceedings against the school for violating Title VII of the Civil Rights Act.
According to Liberty Legal Institute, the school district is concerned about “potential liability” and any perceived violations of their policy “cannot be tolerated”. Kennedy is in danger of losing his job or receiving other discipline.
Kennedy has received overwhelming support from the community. A Facebook page has been posted to defend him and his right to pray.
