(TRUNEWS) As President Obama visits Saudi Arabia, a new report shows the country tops the list of foreign ISIS recruits.
The Combating Terrorism Center in Washington, D.C. is analyzing documents leaked by a deserter that show 579 Saudi citizens joined the group in 2013 and 2014, and is the highest number among the 70 nations represented, according to The Times.
The other top countries for recruits are Tunisia, Morocco, Turkey and Egypt.
Saudi Arabia claims they are against terrorism, but there is speculation they were involved in the events of 9/11. According to The Telegraph, a document tying an al-Qaeda bomb-maker involved in the attacks was found inside an envelope in the Saudi Embassy in Washington.
Ghassan al-Sharbi was not directly involved in the terror attacks, but he took flying lessons with some of the 9/11 hijackers. He was arrested in 2002, and is currently being held at Guantanamo Bay.
The information is supposedly part of the 28 pages of the congressional report on 9/11, which haven’t been released to the public. After the Joint Congressional Inquiry, President Bush ordered the sealing of 28 pages.
Many members of Congress have read them, but the information is classified, so they cannot discuss the content.
Former Florida Senator Bob Graham is pushing for the release of the 28 pages. In a “60 Minutes” interview on CBS, he was asked if the Saudi government was involved in 9/11 or rich people in the country or Saudi charities.
“All of the above,” he answered.
Saudi officials have threatened to dump hundreds of billions of assets held in the U.S. if Congress passes a bill allowing families of 9/11 victims to sue the Saudi government.
This week, President Obama is meeting with Saudi officials in the wake of these two reports, to try and mend relations, which have also suffered in the aftermath of the Iran nuclear deal.
During talks, Saudi Arabia is also expected to ask for a $10 billion loan from the U.S., as the country is suffering from the oil glut. OPEC wants to decrease output, but Iran refuses to go along with the plan. The Saudis are also struggling financially due to the war in Yemen, as reported by TRUNEWS.
