Officials in Morocco foil terror attack hours before the planned strike - from TRUNEWS

(TRUNEWS) Police in Morocco foiled a chemical attack 24 hours before the planned strike.

ISIS was planning to unleash mustard gas on four Moroccan cities and strap a jihadist with explosives to detonate in a tourist or government area, as reported by The Express.   One of the cities is a popular Mediterranean holiday spot for Britons.

The leader of Morocco’s counter-terrorism unit claims the plan could also have been practice for an assault in Britain.

“As for chemical weapons, we have seen here how easy they are to prepare,” said Abdelhak Khaime.

The ingredients are lethal to the touch and easily accessible in Europe.

As terror increases in many parts of northern Africa, experts believe Morocco could be a new hotspot for ISIS sympathizers, due to the large number of mosques exposing young people to anti-Western rhetoric, according to VOA News.  As Moroccan officials continue their cooperation with Western countries in the fight against terror, it is fueling hatred within jihadist groups.

The planned attack has concerned officials in Britain. Every year about 500,000 people from Britain visit Morocco, especially cities like Marrakesh and Casablanca.

Britain has been on high alert since the Brussels attacks, with officials fearing similar violence. Security has been beefed up at key sites, according to BBC.
