Members of Congress outraged over Obamas latest Gitmo release - from TRUNEWS

(TRUNEWS) Over the weekend, President Obama transferred nine Guantanamo Bay detainees, who are Yemeni nationals, to Saudi Arabia.

This comes as allegations surface that secret 9/11 papers not released to the public implicate Saudi officials in the attacks on the Twin Towers and Pentagon. There is pressure now on Obama to release the final 28 pages of the report by the US Senate Select Committee on Intelligence.

In a recent interview on CBS’ “60 Minutes”, former Florida Sen. Bob Graham claimed the hijackers received support from the Saudi government and Saudi businesses.  President Obama will head to Saudi Arabia Tuesday for a meeting with leaders who are concerned about the Iran nuclear deal.

One of the men released from Gitmo, Ahmed Yaslam Said Kuman is an al-Qaeda member who fought against U.S. troops in Afghanistan. Another prisoner, Ahmed Umar Abdulla al-Hikimi was one of Osama Bin Laden’s personal bodyguards.

In February, Obama held a press conference promising to keep his pledge to fully close the Gitmo facility in Cuba, as reported by TRUNEWS. When it was opened during the Bush Administration, more than 800 prisoners were held there. Now only 80 are left.

The facility houses suspected terrorists. The Pentagon claims about 30 percent of those already released have returned to the jihadist activities, according to the Washington Free Beacon.

Some of the men who have been released have threatened attacks or have already committed them, including Abdallah Salih al-Ajmi, who successfully carried out a 2008 suicide bombing in Mosul, Iraq.

Several members of Congress have tried to stop Obama from releasing the prisoners.

“President Obama’s misguided commitment to fulfill a campaign promise to his leftist base is putting American lives, and our national security, in real danger,” said Congressman Mike Pompeo (R-Kan.) in a statement.

Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.) introduced legislation recently to prevent Obama from transferring detainees. The measure was brought up last year but never made it out of committee.

“Continuing to release these dangerous terrorists is reckless and poses a serious threat to our troops, our allies, and our country,” Ayotte said in a press release.
