Brazil to deploy troops to fight Zika - from TRUNEWS

(TRUNEWS) Officials in Brazil will deploy the army to help in the fight against Zika virus, which some medical experts believe is linked to an increase in babies being born with the brain disease, microcephaly.

As reported last week by TRUNEWS, Zika is believed to be transmitted by mosquito and may cause paralysis in adults and brain disease in unborn children.http://ift.tt/1nlPsLa

About 220,000 soldiers will go door-to-door on February 13 to pass out pamphlets on how to avoid the spread of the virus by eliminating mosquito breeding grounds.

This particular type of mosquito is also responsible for the spread of dengue and chikungunya.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has advised pregnant women in U.S. to avoid travel to Brazil and 21 other countries that are reporting outbreaks, according to The Guardian.

The United Nations will discuss the crisis Thursday during a special session of its executive board.

Zika transmission has not been reported in the U.S., but officials believe that could soon change.
