(TRUNEWS) Officials in Sweden are preparing to deport 60,000-80,000 refugees.
Law enforcement and other officials have been advised to start arranging flights to get almost half of last year’s asylum seekers out of the country. Sweden may also ask other EU countries to help with the efforts, according to Interior Minister Anders Ygeman.
Many other countries have made similar declarations in recent weeks, including Norway. Denmark passed a law to force migrants to give up cash and valuables in order to pay for their stay.
Refugees from Afghanistan and Syria have an easier time obtaining refugee status than people from other countries, according to The Guardian.
The increase in animosity toward refugees has been spurred by the violent sexual attacks, including the one at a train station in Cologne, Germany on New Year’s Eve, as reported by TRUNEWS
Across Europe, but especially in Germany, protests have been held to chide governments for accepting more people.
Efforts for more border controls to prevent people from entering in the first place have also increased. Now there are ID checks for people entering Sweden from Denmark.
Other countries like Britain and Bulgaria discourage asylum seekers, according to RT. Hungary, Slovenia and Austria have put up fences. Macedonia has closed its border with Greece.
