Rep. Hunter fights for dismissed Green Beret - from TRUNEWS

(TRUNEWS) Congressman Duncan Hunter (R-CA) has continued his fight to help a Green Beret keep his job, by appealing to Sen. Pat Roberts (R-KS) for help.

Sgt. 1st Class Charles Martland, a Bronze Star recipient and 11-year veteran has been threatened by the Army Human Resources Command for his role in beating an Afghan police officer in 2011 who repeatedly raped a young boy, and then laughed about it.

Martland was removed from the post, according to Washington Free Beacon, and later allowed to reenlist.  Last February the Army’s Qualitative Management Program review board decided to look at the case, and remove him from duty, even though his commander supported his actions.

Hunter has called Martland a war hero and has conducted his own investigation into the matter.  Now he wants Senator Roberts to look into the case during the confirmation process of Eric Fanning as Army Secretary, which is currently on hold.

“This is the type of warrior and leader that deserves to be involuntarily removed from service?  I think not,” said Hunter, on his website.

A final determination will be made soon by the Army Board of Correction of Military Records.
