CENTCOM Officials Accused of Altering Evaluations of ISIS - from TRUNEWS

An investigation is underway to determine if senior officials at Central Command altered evaluations of ISIS. They are being accused by analysts of underestimating the threat and then trying to cover it up.

Former intelligence officials have claimed their superiors made changes in documents regarding the US military’s failures in training Iraqi troops against ISIS, to make the campaign seem like a success.

Recently the Pentagon’s inspector general reviewed military servers to investigate the accusation, and found some emails had been deleted by CENTCOM Maj. General Steven Grove and his civilian deputy Gregory Rickman, according to The Daily Beast. The relevant files began to disappear around the time the inspector general’s staff began their work.

Several people who worked at the command have described CENTCOM has having a cancerous environment for those who made waves against official statements about the fight against ISIS being a success.

Rep. Devin Nunes, the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee sent a letter to the inspector general Monday asking whether emails had been deleted, and requested copies of materials.
In 2012 U.S. intelligence agencies produced a draft National Intelligence Estimate which said al Qaeda no longer posed a direct threat to the U.S. The estimation was in line with the Obama administration’s argument that the terror group had been weakened with the death of Osama bin Laden. But, the language was removed from the document at the demand of the director of the Defense Intelligence Agency at the time, Gen. Michael Flynn.

A source familiar with the al Qaeda report has said that information is relevant is showing intelligence leaders are hostile to analysis that is contradictory to the White House’s public statements.

President Obama has said he doesn’t think his advisers have given him an optimistic evaluation of the campaign against ISIS, but he claims he has ordered a review.
