Pope Francis will head to Africa his week to discuss three key issues with leaders – Islamic extremism, gay rights and the refugee crisis.
It will be the first trip to the continent for the Pope. He will visit Kenya, Uganda and a mosque in the Central African Republic, which is in the midst of a civil war between Muslim rebels and Christian government forces.
But some experts are concerned the visit could incite further violence.
Last April, , Islamic terror group al-Shabaab killed 147 Christians at a college in Kenya. Muslim students were spared.
In recent days, Pope Francis has praised the efforts of the Jesuit Refugee Service, which is a Catholic organization working in Africa to provide health care, education and assistance to people who are displaced.
Hundreds of thousands of people have fled Central African Republic in the past year.
The Pope is also expected to address the issue of homosexuality, which is illegal in several African nations. In Uganda, gays can be sentenced to life in prison. The Catholic Church is opposed to same-sex marriage, but has said being gay is not a sin.
