Donald Trump’s campaign issued a warning to the Republican party; donors can’t be allowed to pool money for attack ads and the GOP has to treat him fairly if they want to keep him from launching an independent bid for the White House.
Trump lawyer Michael Cohen said if Republican donors backing different candidates band together for anti-Trump advertising, it would be a “bad, bad decision.”
Trump is in the crosshairs of the Super PAC New Day For America, which is supporting Ohio governor John Kasich’s Presidential campaign. The group’s spokesman, Matt David, says that ten new donors had pledged money since last week when Politico reported the group’s plans to attack Trump in New Hampshire.
Trump signed a pledge to run as a Republican in the 2016 presidential election, but Cohen says that agreement would be invalid if Republicans target Trump.
The RNC says it has no role in Super PAC activities and would remain neutral in the nominating process.
