(TRUNEWS) Pastor James McConnell has been cleared by a Belfast court of charges of improper use of a public electronic communications network, after he criticized Islam.
The 78-year-old made the comments during a sermon at Whitewell Metropolitan Tabernacle in north Belfast, and it was later posted online.
“People say there are good Muslims in Britain – that may be so – but I don’t trust them. Islam is heathen, Islam is satanic, Islam is a doctrine spawned in hell,” he said, according to Belfast Telegraph.
The judge said the courts need to be careful when criticizing speech. But the prosecution alleged the pastor was using words that were “grossly offensive”.
There was applause at the court when the verdict was delivered.
McConnell said he would repeat them message in the future, but will use softer language. He also said he loves Muslims, but is against their theology.
