South Carolina bill to regulate news reporting - from TRUNEWS

(TRUNEWS) State Rep. Mike Pitts has introduced legislation in South Carolina which would establish a state controlled licensing system for news writers and media outlets. Under the system, reporters would face criminal penalties raging from a $50 fine to work suspension, for disregarding what a government controlled regulation board considers a breach of truth, accuracy, objectivity, impartiality, fairness, and public accountability.

In section D, paragraph 1 of the bill,  the Secretary of State’s Office reserves the right to deny, revoke, or refuse to issue the rights to write about news to an outlet or individual reporter, if the office finds that the person is not competent to be a journalist.

“Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.”1 Thessalonians 5:21

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of a good report; if there be any virtue, and it there be any praise, think on these things.” – Philippians 4:8

We are told by God in His word to monitor and censor ourselves, not allow a growingly secular centralized governmental agency to dictate the content of our speech. The 1st Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, and the basic function of a free press, was seated in this logic. A free country relies on the protection of an individuals God given right to freedom of expression, and to expose truth to the public.
