Israel official visits UAE for secret meeting - from TRUNEWS

(TRUNEWS) Israel’s energy minister visited Abu Dhabi this week where he met with officials to discuss Iran.

Yuval Steinitz made the trip under heavy security and won’t confirm he made the trip according to Israeli television.

Several secret meetings have taken place between Israel and Gulf nations in recent times.

Channel 2 has reported Israel has shown an increased interest in working with Sunni Arab countries who share concerns over Iran and the recently implemented nuclear deal between Tehran and six world powers.  The Israelis believe Iran will not keep their end of the bargain, and will use the economic sanctions relief to build weapons capable of striking Israel.

Earlier this month, several Arab countries cut diplomatic ties with Iran, after Saudi Arabia’s embassy was attacked in Iran.  The violence began when Saudi Arabia executed Shiite cleric, Nimr al Nimr, as reported by TRUNEWS http://ift.tt/1UefScT

Then there is the proxy war in Yemen between Saudi Arabia, its Arab allies, and Iran.

But some are downplaying the visit. The director of communications at the United Arab Emirates Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the attitude of the UAE toward Israel has not changed.  In November, Israel announced it was opening an office in the Abu Dhabi to work with the United Nation’s International Renewable Energy Agency there, according to Times of Israel.

There are no official ties between Israel and any Arab nations.  The Arab states do not recognize Israel as a country, and repeatedly support Palestinian causes.

But in recent years Israel hosted the Egyptian ambassador to share intelligence. Israel is also seeking to resume diplomatic relations with Turkey, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu appointed Dore Gold in May as the director-general of the foreign ministry, in an effort to build diplomatic, commercial and intelligence ties.
