Colorado State House Representative — and Columbine shooting survivor — Patrick Neville believes that if teachers at Columbine High School were carrying guns in 1999, “more of [his] friends would still be alive today.”
Therefore on Tuesday, Neville introduced legislation allowing for lawful concealed carry on public school campuses.
The only thing that is going to stop murderers intent on doing harm is to give good people the legal authority to carry a gun to protect themselves and our children,” he said in a statement.
“Parents wake up everyday and bring their children to school on blind faith that their kids will return home safe. Unfortunately, the current system continues to leave our children as sitting targets for criminals intent on doing harm.”
The Hill notes that Colorado’s Democrat-controlled House is unlikely to pass the bill.
