(TRUNEWS) The European Parliament has approved a resolution to introduce arms embargo against Saudi Arabia.
Concerned over Saudi Airstrikes in Yemen, the members want a ban until an investigation can be conducted on alleged human rights violations, according to RT.
The Greens political group, who pushed to get the amendment passed claims the embargo is “unprecedented”. The group’s spokesman Alyn Smith issued a statement claiming there are “real grounds to believe EU-made weapons systems are being exported to Saudi”.
The EU foreign policy leader, Federica Mogherini has been called on decide how the embargo should be implemented.

Saudi Arabia sent a letter to EU officials over the weekend asking them not to approve the measure, while defending their actions in Yemen.
According to The Guardian, Saudi Ambassador Abdulrahman al-Ahmed claimed they for forced to intervene to stop the Iranian-backed Shiite Houthi rebels. Ahmed said the Saudis are primarily offering humanitarian aid.
The Yemen conflict began after President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi, a Sunni, was sent into exile. This happened after the Houthis seized large parts of the country. Iran and the Houthis supported the previous president Ali Abdullah Saleh, who was overthrown in 2012.
In March of last year, Saudi Arabia began launching airstrikes to stop the Houthis and help Hadi regain power.
The conflict is also complicated by terror cells, like ISIS and al-Qaeda.
The United Nations claims 700 children have been killed and more than 1,000 have been injured since the Saudis intervened.
