North and South Korea exchange threats, U.S. may have to take action - from TRUNEWS

(TRUNEWS) North and South Korea are threatening each other, as tensions escalate in the region in the aftermath of recent nuclear testing by North Korea, the missile launch in early Feb., and terror threats against the South.

The South Korean government has warned Pyongyang that provocation would expedite “the collapse of its dictatorial system”, according to Yonhap News.

On Tuesday, the Supreme Command of the North’s People’s Army threatened to strike the South Korean President Park Geun-hye’s home and office, known as Blue House. They also threatened U.S. military operations in the region.

The U.S. currently has 30,000 troops in South Korea. The two countries are also planning a massive joint military exercise next month, as reported by TRUNEWS, which has irked the North Koreans.

Gen. Curtis Scaparrotti, the top military commander in South Korea testified before the Senate Armed Services Committee Tuesday that North Korea will use weapons of mass destruction if they felt the dictatorship of leader Kim Jong-un was in jeopardy.

He claimed tensions are anxiety in the region was at its highest level in 20 years.

During the same hearing, Adm. Harry Harris, commander of the U.S. Pacific command warned that the U.S. military may have to intervene if the North continues developing ballistic missiles.

The Korean Was is technically still going on. The conflict, which ran from 1950-53 ended in a truce, not a treaty.
