Chinese man makes plea after hacking U.S. defense contractors - from TRUNEWS

(TRUNEWS) China has valuable U.S. stealth jet secrets and a Chinese man has pleaded guilty to the hacking.

Su Bin made a plea deal with the U.S. District Court in Los Angeles earlier this week for illegal computer hacking, according to the Washington Free Beacon.   Su admitted to conspiring with two others in China when he hacked into Boeing and other defense contractors.

The men obtained files on C-17 military aircraft, and possibly F-22 and F-35’s – which are advanced stealth fighter jets that can evade radar.  The information could help U.S. enemies rapidly catch up their defense technology.

They also stole data on an “advanced Unites States military project”.

The information was given to China.  In the past few years, China’s air force has beefed up its fleet, which has led to speculation about possible hacking, as reported by Business Insider.

U.S. Attorney Eileen M. Decker said in a statement that the hack represented “one of the most serious threats to our national security”.

The court case also shed light on Chinese cyber theft of U.S. aircraft data, which was revealed by former NSA contractor Edward Snowden.  China had obtained more than 50 terabytes from U.S. defense and government networks, including secrets about the F-35 and Northrup Grumman aircraft.

The court papers did not reveal how the three men were discovered.

This is the first successful prosecution of a Chinese hacker for stealing U.S. secrets. In 2014, there were five hackers from the People’s Liberation Army who were indicted in Pennsylvania, but they are currently in China.
