Former Bush official calls war a ‘racket’ - from TRUNEWS

A former Bush administration official is speaking about war and how it’s helping corporate interests.

Col. Lawrence Wilkerson, who worked under the George W. Bush administration told Salon that war is a “racket”.

In 1961, President Eisenhower warned about the military-industrial complex, but Wilkerson said those predictions weren’t strong enough because today’s war machine “is more pernicious than Eisenhower ever thought it would be”, as reported by Salon.

He accused President Clinton of expanding NATO to help companies like Lockheed Martin, Raytheon and Boeing increase their weapons sales.

Members of Congress go along with this because of the money they get from defense contractors and political PACS. He blamed both Democrats and Republicans.

In 2011, then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton claimed, “It’s time for the United States to start thinking of Iraq as a business opportunity.”

Wilkerson said contractors and corporations have done more harm to U.S. international relations than anything else with fraud, corruption and waste.

The U.S. government protects the contractors despite the problems, according to the Huffington Post, because war makes money.

Contractors are also inadvertently helping insurgents because they are paying them for protection.  Extortion is a major source of funding for these groups, according to Financial Times.
