(TRUNEWS) A Catholic priest was crucified on Good Friday. It is believed ISIS is responsible.
Last week, TRUNEWS reported Thomas Uzhunnalil, a priest from India who was kidnapped in Yemen earlier in the month was being held for a possible crucifixion.
Jihadists raided Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity in Aden and slaughtered four nuns, after sneaking into the facility by posing as a relative of one of the guests. Two staff members were killed, along with two staff members, a guard and eight residents. The priest was kidnapped.
Pope Francis has honored the nuns by naming them as martyrs. He called the act “senseless and diabolical violence”.
Around the world people were praying for the release of the Uzhunnalil, according to The Washington Times, after social media posts warned of the impending murder. Several religious group had received threats, but the priest’s church in Bangalore denied it.
The crucifixion was reported by Archbishop of Vienna, Christoph Cardinal Schonborn, according to Daily Mail, but it is not known how he received the information. He announced it during Easter Mass at St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Austria.
The instability in Yemen began when the Western-backed president was forced to flee. Saudi Arabia responded with airstrikes targeting the Iranian-backed Houthi rebels. ISIS and al-Qaeda have cells in the country.
