ISIS may be on brink of using nuclear weapons - from TRUNEWS

A top researcher has warned ISIS could be on the brink of using nuclear weapons against Western targets.

Harvard’s Matthew Bunn claims the group is evolving and may already have nuclear weapons, according to The Express.

In his report, Bunn claimed there are three potential types of nuclear terrorism which include detonating a bomb, sabotaging a nuclear facility or using a dirty bomb to spread radioactive material.

Even if a bomb didn’t immediately kill scores of people the economic and clean-up costs could become a huge problem.

Bunn’s report makes suggestions on how to tighten security at nuclear and industrial sites.  Hospitals may also be targeted because they contain materials that could be used for weapons.

The recent attacks in Brussels highlight the need to address this threat. TRUNEWS reported the bombers had considered kidnapping a nuclear official.

Bunn’s report comes as President Obama hosts the Nuclear Security Summit Thursday in Washington.  The 50 leaders in attendance will discuss whether terror groups could obtain nuclear devices.   In a side meeting, Obama will talk with South Korean President Park Geun-hye and Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to discuss the nuclear threat North Korea poses.  North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has threatened to strike the U.S. mainland and has tested several weapons this year.
