(TRUNEWS) Two weeks ago, Russia pulled its warplanes and bombers out of Syria, but they have quickly moved in an advanced tactical missile system.
The Iskander-M can carry a nuclear warhead, according to DEBKAfile.
On March 15, the Russians said the S-400 ground-to-air missiles would remain in Syria. Now the Iskander-M is there, which can carry two missiles, and is easy to prepare for launch.
Other features include the ability of the missile to lock on the target without being shot down and its targets can be set by satellites.
In 2015, the Iskander was set in Kaliningrad in the Baltic Sea, which caused concern for NATO countries, due to the Ukraine crisis.
The missile system could change the stakes in the five-year Syrian war as it could give Russia the upper hand. The range covers northern Israel, most of Syria, a large portion of Turkey and parts of the eastern Mediterranean.
There are also reports that while Russia was removing some equipment out, they were also moving in more supplies. Reuters has reported supply ships have gone back and forth between the Black sea port of Novorossiysk and Russia’s naval port at Tartus, Syria.
Analysts for Reuters believe Russia has also stepped up its naval force and seems to have more warships near the Syrian coast now.
