(TRUNEWS) The head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for his role in negotiating the nuclear deal between Iran and six world powers last July.
Ali Akbar Salehi helped get economic sanctions dropped against Iran, in exchange for a promise to curb nuclear ambitions.
Last week Salehi told members of Iran’s Strategic Council on Foreign Relations that the deal had left some components of the nuclear program intact, according to Times of Israel.
Also, nominated U.S. Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz, who assisted in the negotiations, Pope Francis, Edward Snowden and Donald Trump.
According to AFP, Trump should win for “his vigorous peace through strength ideology”.
Thousands of nominations come in every year from people who meet certain criteria, such as members of governments, people who have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize and members of the Norwegian Nobel Committee.
