(TRUNEWS) The State Department has no clue if Hillary Clinton’s private email server was hacked successfully.
Spokesman Mark Toner held a press conference where he made the claims, and then he backtracked when pressed about it, according to the Washington Free Beacon.
The inspector general of the State Department released a report Wednesday which said Clinton’s use of a private email and server during her tenure as Secretary of State was in violation of federal regulations enacted to protect classified information, as reported by TRUNEWS.
After back peddling, Toner attempted to clarify his comments.
“Thank you for giving me the chance to clarify. The OIG report doesn’t address, specifically, the security of her system, including whether or not any of the reported attempted hacks were successful,” Toner said. “For that, I would just have to refer you to her team to talk about whether there were, or whether any were successful … To our knowledge, there were not, but I don’t know that’s a comprehensive knowledge.”
In the report, the inspector general concluded that Clinton “had an obligation to discuss using her personal email account to conduct official business” and that there was “no evidence” she requested or received approval.
She was also criticized for not properly handling the records, according to the New York Times. He didn’t turn over her emails, as required under the Federal Records Act until being pressured from members of Congress who were investigating the 2011 attack in Benghazi. Even then , Clinton’s aides only turned over half the emails.
“Secretary Clinton should have surrendered all emails dealing with department business before leaving government service and, because she did not do so, she did not comply with the department’s policies that were implemented in accordance with the Federal Records Act,” the report said.
