Russia stops ISIS from smuggling oil to Turkey - from TRUNEWS

(TRUNEWS) The Russian Air Force has stopped smuggled oil from being delivered to Turkey from Syria courtesy of ISIS.

Syrian Ambassador to Russia Riyad Haddad talked to Sputnik.

“I can say that Russian Aerospace Forces managed to stop deliveries of smuggled oil from Syria to Turkey almost entirely. All the tanks where oil was stored have been destroyed as well,” Haddad said

Some of the oil wells remain in Turkey, though, and they are used by ISIS.

Russia has long accused Turkey of funding ISIS by purchasing oil, as reported by TRUNEWS.

Tensions between the two countries have increased since last fall when a Russian plane was shot down near the border. Turkish officials claim it was in their airspace, but Moscow said it was in Syrian territory.

Turkey is a NATO member, like the U.S. But the leadership of President Tayyip Erdogan has caused a strain in relations with Washington and the EU.

On Friday, Turkey accused the U.S. of being “two-faced” for refusing to refer to the Syrian Kurds (YPG) as terrorists. The U.S. has backed the YPG hoping to oust Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.  The YPG is a powerful militia that has helped run ISIS out of many parts of northern Syria.

Turkey was further angered by photos of U.S. soldiers wearing YPG emblems.

Pentagon press secretary Peter Cook said when special forces operate they dress sometimes to blend in with the community.

“If they say ‘We don’t see the YPG and these terrorist groups as the same’, my answer is, that is a double standard and two-faced,” said Melvut Cavusoglu, the Turkish foreign minister.
