(TRUNEWS) A new detention facility will be erected in Texas with a wing specifically for transgender people.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement has confirmed the plans for a separate facility in Alvarado, Texas. It will hold about 700 people and will include a separate unit for the transgenders, according to Fusion.
Each individual will get special treatment when it comes to searches, clothing options medical care and hygiene.
But it’s not good enough for activists, who want transgender illegals to have private facilities.
“[ICE] is talking about the new detention center as if they are providing a service to the community, and they’re not,” Isa Noyola, the program director at the Transgender Law Center, told Fusion.
President Obama’s Administration has issued a memorandum directing agencies to properly care and house these illegals.
“The Transgender Care Memorandum reaffirms ICE’s commitment to providing a safe, secure, and respectful environment for all those in our custody,” said Thomas Homan, the Executive Assistant Director for ICE’s Office of Enforcement and Removal Operations, in a statement at the time.
In the past few weeks, Obama has issued other directives giving special privileges to transgender people, as reported by TRUNEWS. Every school district in the country has been told to allow transgender people to use the restroom of their choice.
The Justice Department is in a legal battle with the state of North Carolina over their bathroom law, which requires people to use the facility that corresponds with their sex at birth.
