Head of Russian Orthodox church praises Evangelicals, Graham - from TRUNEWS

(TRUNEWS) The head of the Russian Orthodox Church is building relationships with Evangelicals in the U.S. who promote the Christian values of life, marriage and family.

Patriarch Kirill recently met with Franklin Graham, praising him for standing up against the homosexual agenda, according to LifeSite News.

“This gives us a sign of hope: there are people among Western Christians akin to us in ethic principles, sharing them with the Russian Orthodox Church,” Kirill said.

The two leaders also discussed increasing secularization in the West, the persecution of Christians and the need to reach out to young people.

“I appreciate Patriarch Kirill’s very clear moral voice on issues of marriage, family, and the sanctity of life,” Graham wrote on his Facebook page.

Metropolitan Jonah of the Russian Church Outside of Russia said the patriarch is securing an alliance of conservatives who want to spread Christian values.

Kirill praised the conservative Anglican Church, but criticized the Episcopal Church, which has supported homosexuality and same-sex marriage.  There is no communication between the Episcopals and the Russian Orthodox Church.

Recently, Kirill met with Pope Francis to discuss Christian Persecution.

“Surprisingly, the U.S. Congress suddenly declared the extermination of Christians in the Middle East a genocide. We did ask them to say that it is genocide, that it is killing. There was no answer, and now there is one because the voice of the East and West united and said the most important thing that worries all of us today,” Kirill said, as reported by Interfax.

He cited a statistic that claims a Christian gets killed in the world every five minutes.
