(TRUNEWS) Officials at Emory University in Atlanta are reacting strongly to sidewalk chalk messages that read “Trump 2016”.
President Jim Wagner said students view the messages as “intimidation” and claim their “safe space” was violated, according to Daily Mail. They did not have that reaction when someone chalked support for Bernie Sanders or Black Lives Matter.
According to the school newspaper students called on the administration to address their concerns, claiming they were “in pain”. The editor, Zak Hudak promised to support “oppressed groups” in an editorial.
Student Josh Goodman appeared on the O’Reilly Factor where he accused the college of legitimizing the claims that the message was a “violent action”.
The administration is reviewing security footage to track down the writers of the message. The campus newspaper reported the administration is now taking steep measures to combat chalk vandals. Some of the steps include establishing a Freedom of Expression Committee to determine if the responsible party violated school policy and whether the writings were done on an appropriate surface.
Counseling will be available to students who have been adversely impacted by the “Trump 2016” chalk messages.
Some people responded to the incident by telling the “crybaby students” to grow up.
“I have no idea how you kids will survive once you get out into the real world. People have different opinions than you. You need to grow up, and fast,” wrote one person who responded to the newspaper’s story.
