(TRUNEWS) While the world focuses on atrocities committed by ISIS in Syria and Iraq, there are similar barbarous acts going on in another country without much notice.
People in Libya, especially in Sirte have been subjected to human rights abuses for more than a year since ISIS took over the area. Human Rights Watch has interviewed people who have witnessed “scenes of horror”, as reported by International Business Times.
There have been crucifixions, public beheadings and shootings.
“As if beheading and shooting perceived enemies isn’t enough, ISIS is causing terrible suffering in Sirte even for Muslims who follow its rules,” said Letta Tayler, a senior terrorism and counterterrorism researcher at HRW.
According to the new report, ISIS has murdered dozens of people and has left the rest fearing for their lives. Many residents have been accused of spying, sorcery and “insulting God”.
One man, Milah Ahmed Abourgheba surrendered after fighting for a rival force. He was murdered and then his corpse, dressed in an orange jumpsuit, was hung from scaffolding and not returned to his family.
“They shot him in public, and then they crucified him for three days in Zaafran Square,” the relative reportedly said.
About 80,000 people have fled the area since ISIS invaded. The terror group has taken over many parts of Libya since the ousting of Moammar Gadhafi in 2011. ISIS members have almost doubled their presence, just in the past year.
Tuesday, world powers announced their support for the new government, as reported by TRUNEWS. Many experts are skeptical the new leader can unify the country and defeat the jihadists.
