Obama secretly pays Iran $2 billion in taxpayer money - from TRUNEWS

(TRUNEWS) President Obama has secretly paid Iran $2 billion in taxpayer money over the past three years.

The Washington Free Beacon has reported secret talks between Obama and Tehran to discuss plans for Washington to repay alleged “legal claims” that Iran said is owed by the U.S.

The information was revealed in a letter issued by the State Department after a demand was issued by Rep. Mike Pompeo (R-Kan.).   He was looking for information on $1.7 billion dollars given to Iran that was dubbed as a “ransom payment” for the release of U.S. hostages.

The administration delayed the information for months before finally responding to Pompeo.

“We apologize for the delay in responding,” Julia Frifield, an assistant secretary for legislative affairs, states in the letter’s opening.

Frifield defended the payment and claims Iran may be given more money in the future.

“We are confident that this was a good settlement for the American taxpayer,” the State Department said.

Iran’s beef with the U.S. was over the arms deal that was cancelled after the Islamic Revolution in 1979.  The issues were brought before a tribunal at The Hague.

But the letter evaded the question posed by Pompeo on whether the funds were used for ransom payments.

“When Iran releases American hostages, and then, on that same day, President Obama announces he is paying Iran $1.7 billion, Congress, of course, has to ask the hard questions,” said one source familiar with the investigation, calling the deal “suspicious”.

The settlement was reached outside of the nuclear deal and is separate from the $150 billion in unfrozen cash assets the U.S. is supposed to give to Iran under that agreement, according to the source.
