French Official Claims Russian Airstrikes in Syria NOT Against ISIS - from TRUNEWS

The French defense minister told parliament that Russian planes did not strike at ISIS terrorists in their raids today but rather targeted opponents of President Bashir al-Assad.

“Mr Speaker, ladies and gentlemen members of the parliament, Mr MP Candelier, I will answer your question after the Prime Minister speaks, but I will add an element to the discussion and to the line of questioning: it’s the fact that, as you know, Russian forces have struck in Syria, it’s now public information and curiously they have not hit Daesh (Islamic State). So I will let you draw the conclusions on your own,” Defence Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said.

Military experts say that Homs, where today’s Russian airstrikes took place, is a key city for Assad to control if he wants to maintain control of western Syria.

The strikes came days after Russian President Vladimir Putin told the United Nations there should be a world-wide, Russian-led coalition to enter the battle to eliminate ISIS.
