Commanders from the Russian, Syrian and Iranian militaries are joining forces to establish a coordination cell in Baghdad. Sources say the groups will attempt to join forces with Iranian-backed Shia militias who are battling ISIS terrorists.
Fox News reported intelligence sources spotted low-level Russian generals in coordination meetings.
One US official describing the scene as Russian military personnel arrived in Baghdad as “they’re popping up everywhere.”
There’s already been an increased Russian military presence in Syria, and that topic will likely be discussed as President Obama meets with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday in New York City. It’s believed it will be the first time Obama has directly spoken to Putin about Russian forces in Syria and their potential to destabilize the region.
