The Wisconsin state assembly has passed a bill that would take away $3.5 million in federal funding for abortionist Planned Parenthood.
The bill, which passed 60-35, has been hailed by Republican legislators as stopping money from going to abortionists while not limiting any access to birth control, cancer screenings and STD prevention and treatment.
The bill requires the state to apply for federal Title X grant money, but instead of going to Planned Parenthood as the money current is sent, it would go to the state’s “Well-Woman” program that provides breast and cervical cancer screenings.
“Planned Parenthood is nothing more than a maintenance garage that treats women like sex objects,” Rep. Janel Brandtjen told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. “Women need access to real health care. Let’s get that done.”
“Our taxpayer dollars should not prop up entities that do not adhere to one of the basic principles of medicine, do no harm. Planned Parenthood is in the business of abortion, period,” Rep. Joel Kleefisch told the Madison Cap Times. “These grant dollars are meant to promote public health and improve medical access. Funneling the money to Planned Parenthood and its affiliates means our tax dollars are being used to actively terminate human life, not promote or improve public health.”
No Democrats voted to stop the federal money from going to the abortionist group.
