States Move To Ban Profit from Fetal Tissue Sales - from TRUNEWS

Several states are now taking action in light of the undercover Planned Parenthood videos to prohibit anyone from making a profit off the sales of fetal tissue.

In New York, state Senator John DeFrancisco has introduced a bill that would prohibit “valuable consideration” (i.e. profit) from the sale of any human organs or tissues and that would include anything taken from an abortion baby.

The Republican leader of the Wisconsin State Senate told reporters that he wants to pass a similar measure but make sure it focuses on the tissue taken from aborted babies.  The proposal has broad support in the Republican dominated Senate, but an addition that would make it a felony to use aborted baby tissue in research has drawn concern.

“I don’t know what form it will take,” State Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald (pictured above) told The Associated Press. “The tricky thing is probably the research piece.”

Even lawmakers in California are looking for ways to make state law tighter than federal law, even as Congress looks for ways to make federal law more restrictive on the sale and trade of aborted baby tissues and organs.

“What these Planned Parenthood videos have demonstrated is a very slippery slope to an immoral landscape,” California state Assemblyman Jim Patterson told FoxNews.com. “Anyone with any heart and soul who has seen these videos would have to come out and say with conviction that this is not the society we want to be.”

Planned Parenthood has repeatedly denied the use of fetal tissue to make profit for their organization.  Several pro-life groups have been harshly critical of politicians who are calling for the bans or restrictions on sales of baby organs.

“Not only does a federal ban already exist, but there is no evidence of a problem here in New York or elsewhere. What we’re seeing in New York, as we’ve seen in other states, is an attempt by a legislator — who wants to ban abortion altogether — to capitalize on a media controversy manufactured by anti-choice extremists. What risks getting sacrificed by this political posturing is that fetal tissue donated to scientific research has led to lifesaving medical advances and cures for serious diseases. The fact that Sen. DeFrancisco almost became the Senate Majority leader should be a wake-up call to New Yorkers that anti-choice activism is alive and well in the State Senate,” National Abortion Rights Action League New York president Andrea Miller told WGRZ-TV.
