Pastor Saeed Abedini, the American pastor imprisoned in Iran, has been allowed a visit from an Iranian family member. Abedini has been in prison for three years. His wife and two children live in the U.S.
His wife, Nagmeh said the visit was bittersweet, because he was upset seeing pictures of his son and daughter, realizing he is missing out on watching them grow up.
He is serving an 8 year sentence for what the Iranian government is calling endangering national security. Abedini was arrested while working in a Christian orphanage. He converted to Christianity from Islam.
One source of encouragement was knowing people are praying for him, according to his wife. She said in a Christian Post interview, “H e was encouraged to know that a date that brought so much pain had become a day when Christians united together to pray for him and the persecuted Church”. September 26 is the anniversary of his capture. A global prayer vigil will be held.
The Obama administration did not make his release, along with 3 other Americans as a condition in the nuclear deal with Iran, which many have criticized.
The American Center for Law and Justice has a letter signed by 260,000 people to deliver to U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, which will call on the United Nations to put pressure on the Iranian government to release Abedini.
